Abstract

Trials, hope and efforts through the life of Santiago, a protagonist in the novel of “The Old Man and the Sea” by Hemingway are the key elements of this article. The researchers use qualitative research method in order to analyze the above elements from the selected novel. Primary and secondary sources are the basics of this paper. The researchers deal with the human existence and their conditions in the light of existentialism approach through the character of Santiago. These three elements are the prominent features of this writer’s book.  In this way, existentialism philosophical approach uses in this study for the elucidation of above mentioned elements. In this article we describe how Santiago faced various problems on his way but he doesn’t lose hope and he does his best in order to get what he wishes.
